The striking original designs for this unique two-storey 1970's house in Brixham were based on a circular central core, with the rooms springing off this geometry. Although there were later building modifications, the design of the central part of the building with its original spiral staircase still remained and we were able to work with this to create a harmonious interior design update. We retained the original staircase to make it more stable and replaced the thin treads with bespoke oak treads and new oak hand rail, subtly emphasising the curved walls of the hallway with new wall lighting. All bespoke joinery works including new fitted wardrobes by Couch Joinery.
We recommended upgrading the plumbing & electrical infrastructure, replacing old radiators with an energy-efficient low-profile underfloor heating system throughout the ground floor laid beneath the new engineered oak floorboards, and designed a subtle way to emphasise the existing circular hallway with bespoke parquet floor boards. The dated kitchen, bathroom and two shower rooms were all replaced, using high quality fittings and materials, and we designed the new lighting scheme incorporating fittings supplied by Amos Lighting. New oak doors and door furniture In the final part of the transformation the original dark pine ceiling beams & boards were redecorated with a pale opaque paint, bringing in more light to the deep interior and creating a more contemporary feeling of space and airiness.
